Mazda Eunos 1.8 Mk1 in Chaste White
This lovely Chaste White Mazda Eunos 1.8 has quite an unusual specification, one that makes it quite eye-catching. Originally registered in Japan back in June 1995 and then imported to the UK in 2003, its had the same owner for the last 19 years and has now covered an indicated 133689 km (around 83500 miles). It has spent much of the last five years stored in a barn, started up every now and then until last year, when it was put back on the road. Its since had many hours and lots on money spent on it so that it can be used and enjoyed properly.
Standard specification on these includes electric windows, power steering and electric mirrors. However while its mechanically standard, its had a couple of cosmetic additions over the years, the most obvious of which is the addition of tan leather seats along with tan door cards in place of the usual black items. Its a colour combination that suits the car well especially when paired with the Ital Volante wood-rimmed steering wheel and matching wood gear knob and it just makes the car feel more special.
Inside, everything is in nice clean condition with just a little wear to the driver’s seat bolster (no holes though). Dashboard, trim and carpets are all in good order. The electric window mechanisms have just been cleaned and greased too. The Bluetooth stereo sounds good and has ports for a USB cable and phone charging and it has its original electric aerial in good working condition.
Bodywork is good too; its had some repairs to rear wheel arches and the rear sill area and all feels strong and solid. There are a couple of minor welded repairs on the underside and again, these are solid. The underside is in good order and its just been treated with Dinitrol. Wings, doors, inner wheel arches etc are all in clean, tidy and solid and paintwork is very good too. Its genuinely a very smart, good-looking car. A new vinyl soft top from Prestige was fitted last year and this is in ‘as new’ condition. Its also fitted with a Mk2 windblocker. Its sitting on a set of 142 Mazda BBS alloy wheels (in reasonably tidy condition rather than award-winning) and these are fitted with a set of matching Nexen tyres, all in good condition.
I have carried out quite an extensive amount of work in order to bring the car up to my standard and to ensure that the new owner can just get on and drive the car, rather than fix it. First of all, I replaced a leaky front crank oil seal but this simple job escalated and I ended up replacing the water pump, timing belt and idlers, CAS ‘O’ ring seal and cam cover gasket. I then replaced the radiator with a brand new one (and radiator cap) and re-filled with new anti-freeze. Next was a big service which included new air filter, oil filter and oil, new ignition leads and new spark plugs and both base idle and ignition timing have been re-set. The tired exhaust system was replaced with a good used one. New springs have been fitted along with new clutch, battery and new wiper blades. The engine bay is clean and tidy and in nice standard condition and it has a Torsen limited slip differential fitted.
The car now drives beautifully well. Suspension is firm as is usual and handling excellent. The engine pulls strongly and clutch (recently replaced) and gearbox are just as they should be while brake discs, pads and lines are all in good order. Its free from rattles and squeaks and is just lovely to drive.
There are two keys along with a pile of old receipts and MOT certificates and its had its background HPI checked and is free from previous accident damage etc. The car has been thoroughly checked over and its about to be MOT tested again (current one expires in July). In fact whenever I prepare a car for sale, I use my own MX5-based checklist which covers 80+ points and ensures that even the detail stuff is checked and any issues spotted and attended to: a copy of this is given to every buyer. This includes all sorts of things such as hood catches, drain holes, electric windows, door locks, condition of coolant hoses right down to the state of the cigarette lighter. It means the car is fit for purpose and should behave and drive just as a good MX5 should. As a sign of how confident I am in the condition of the car, if the asking price of £5500 is paid, I'll include 6 months warranty administered by Warranty First.
