Mazda Eunos 1.6 1990
I have this lovely Mazda Eunos 1.6 for sale. First registered in Japan in November 1990, its finished in Classic red with cloth seats and black trim. Specification is pretty good and includes electric windows, power steering, air conditioning and a Momo leather-rimmed steering wheel along with a stainless steel style bar. Its covered around 112000 miles (180,000km) and we have just spent a huge amount of time and money on giving this one a big refresh and preparing it ready for sale.
Bodywork is such a big deal on an MX5/Eunos and on this one, its very good. There is no rust on wheel arches, sills, wings etc. A car of this age (34 years old) will have had some bodywork repairs at some point in its life and a close inspection shows it to have had minor repairs to the sills on both sides which look to have been carried out to a good standard. The spot welds on the rear inner wheel arch lip are still all intact which is a good sign that they haven’t been touched before. Underneath, floors, lower sills chassis rails etc are all in strong and sound condition. All running gear, subframes and suspension are in good clean order. Paintwork is very good too with no scratches or scuffs to worry about. Its sitting on a set of original Mazda ‘Daisy’ 14” alloy wheels (in good condition) and these are fitted with a matching set of Hankook tyres, again all in good condition.
The black vinyl soft top (with plastic window) is in good order with no splits or damage. There is a matching black tonneau cover which looks smart when fitted. Inside, the cloth seats show some minor wear on the driver’s bolster in line with their age but are otherwise in good condition with no holes or splits. Carpets and trim are in good order: everything inside is nice and clean and its fitted with a set of Lockwood white dials which look good. Its fitted with a Panasonic radio/CD player which sounds good. Everything inside works as it should including the electric windows.
Mechanically its all good too: the engine is typical MX5 in that it feels sweet and strong and will rev seemingly forever and loves being wound up hard. This one feels even more eager than usual possibly thanks to a bigger bore exhaust from the cat back. The gearbox feels just right as does the clutch. Its lovely to drive: as usual I like to cover a good 250 miles in all of my sales cars and I can confirm that this one drives as a good MX5 should.
In preparation for its sale, it has been thoroughly inspected using my unique MX5-based 80+ point checklist and any faults found, rectified. Its just been serviced with new oil, spark plugs and filters. We also carried out a complete overhaul of the cooling system so new water pump, thermostat, new radiator and cap, coolant change. We also replaced the cam belt and replaced the tensioner idlers with new genuine Mazda parts. Electric windows have been cleaned and greased as have door locks, drain holes cleared, handbrake adjusted etc, The brakes are in good order with discs and pads having with plenty of life. Its fitted with KYB adjustable suspension and a drive shows that the ride quality is good while still retaining its excellent handling. Its MOT tested until July 2025 but I’ll include a new MOT if the asking price is met.
There is a file full of receipts showing work carried out over the years along with two keys. Price is £4995.
STATUS: NOW SOLD.
