Mazda Eunos 1.6 V-Special
This Mazda Eunos 1. 6 V-Special Mk1 is available now. Finished in Neo Green with tan leather seats, this was originally registered in Japan in April 1991 and is in really nice condition throughout. Specification includes electric windows, power steering, a stainless steel style bar, Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel with matching handbrake handle and gear knob and stainless steel sill tread plates. Its fitted with a tan vinyl soft top and this is in good order too.
This one has had a fortune spent on it by previous owners. A couple of years ago, a huge amount of time and money was spent on the underside of the car with new shock absorbers, new springs and anti-roll bar links. The rear subframe was removed, cleaned and powder coated before being refitted with new camber bolts, subframe bushes and fittings. All suspension arms were refurbished. The underside is as clean as any you'll find out there.
Bodywork is very good indeed with no rust on wheel arches, sills or wings - or anywhere else. The passenger side rear sill area has had some repairs in the past and these have been done to a high standard. A car of this age (33 years old) will have had some structural repairs at some point in its life but a close inspection shows it to be sound and strong underneath with solid floors and lower sills.
Paintwork is generally good with the odd mark or very minor dent here and there in line with its age. Its a very good looking car and its sitting on a set of original 14" 'Daisy' style alloy wheels and these are fitted with a matching set of Vredestein tyres, all in good condition.
Inside, the leather seats show some minor wear but are otherwise in good condition with no splits. Carpets and trim are in good order: everything inside is nice and clean and the interior has a lovely retro feel to it. The stereo system works well and sounds good and it has an immobiliser fitted. It still has its original brown V-Special carpet mats fitted. The woodwork - steering wheel, gear knob etc are all in nice condition. Mechanically its all good too: the engine is typical MX5 in that it feels sweet and strong and will rev seemingly forever and loves being wound up hard. In preparation for its sale, its just been comprehensively checked over and serviced with new oil, spark plugs and filters. Electric windows have been cleaned and greased as have door locks, drain holes cleared, handbrake adjusted etc, The brakes are in good order with discs and pads having with plenty of life. Suspension is as it should be and a drive shows that the ride quality is good while still retaining its excellent handling.
Its MOT tested until April 2025. Within the last 5000 miles, its had the following replaced:
New stainless steel braided brake hoses.
Both gear shift rubber boots.
Front brake discs and pads.
Fuel filter.
New timing belt, water pump, cam sensor 'O' ring, crankshaft and camshaft seals.
New power steering and alternator belts.
New differential oil and gearbox oil.
Clutch slave cylinder.
As with any 30+ year old car, there are areas that could be improved upon: it has the odd minor dent, a couple of areas of paintwork that doesn't have as good a finish as it should. There are a couple of holes in the front bumper where the number plate was once fitted. Overall though, its a better-than-average example and performs and handles just as a good MX5 should: this one does just that and I reckon its better than most. Its covered around 119,000 miles though it has covered just 13000 miles in the last 11 years. In any case, its a nice example and could easily be used every day. This really is the painless way into classic/ fun car ownership. This is a really nice example of a good Eunos V-Special and is simply a joy to drive. I have a good collection of paperwork, an owners handbook, two keys and the original tool kit. A check on the HPI register shows it as being clear from previous accident damage. Price is £5350.
