1993 Mazda Eunos 1.6 S-Ltd
Another nice car for sale here and this time its a 1993 Mazda Eunos 1.6 S-Ltd, one of just 1000 ever produced in this specification - and that was for the Japanese Domestic Market only so still quite a rare car in the UK. The S-Ltd models were all finished in Brilliant Black with red leather seats, carpets and trim. All used the 1.6 115bhp engine but also had a limited slip differential fitted along with Bilstein suspension. All S-Ltds will now be 30 years old so, as with this example, the original specification will have changed as owners replace and improve the car over the years.
I have been dealing MX5s for over 20 years now so its inevitable that I see some cars many times over the years. This particular car is one of those and I'm delighted to to offer it for sale yet again. I’m not certain when I first bought this one – but it may have been at least 15 years ago. I bought it from a chap in Scotland, sold it to an enthusiast in Brighton, bought it back from him, sold to it someone else who I can’t remember, bought it back and sold it to a nice chap in Yorkshire and now its back here again. If anything, it drives and looks better now than it did many years ago.
Its now covered around 111,500 miles and has had a lot of time and money spent on it over the last couple of years and more recently by me. More on that in a moment.
Full specification includes power steering. electric windows, leather seats, air conditioning (don't get excited it doesn't work and probably needs a re-gas) and stainless steel sill tread plates with matching door speaker surrounds. Its also sitting on a set of 14" BBS gold alloys as fitted when it left the factory. Bodywork is very good: its undoubtedly had repairs to sills and has had some paintwork over the years but its solid and looks good and there is no rust in the usual problem areas of sills, wheel arches, wings etc. If you run your finger around the inside edge of each rear wheel arch, it feels nice and clean (rather than full of holes and filler as can sometimes be the case). Underneath its all solid though again I can see that its had repairs in the past. Its also been treated with what looks like Dinitrol. Most importantly, its solid everywhere. The engine bay is particularly smart and has a lovely red powder coated cam cover fitted and it has its original yellow engine strut brace fitted.
Inside the red leather seats have various creases in line with their age but no holes or splits - in fact they look nicely aged. Carpets and trim are in reasonable condition: clean and smart but not 100% perfect, again in line with it being a 30 year old car. It has white dials and a leather rimmed steering wheel. The electric windows have been cleaned and greased. The interior definitely has bags of character and has a lovely 'classic car' feel to it - its a nice place to be.
The last owner had replaced all four shocks and springs with brand new ones, replaced all four brake discs along with new pads, had a new Mk2 black vinyl soft fitted complete with glass window, a new radiator and had it serviced regularly. As part of my preparation for its sale, we fitted a new clutch, have given it a full service, repaired a leather seat, fitted new door speakers, sorted out various wiring/electrical issues, fitted a reconditioned electric aerial etc. Its been checked over carefully and I have added another 200+ miles to ensure it drives as a good one should. And it does just that with a smooth engine, lovely gearbox feel and good brakes that all work as they should. Performance is good and it pulls strongly, revs round to the redline easily and will happily sit on the motorway at daft speeds if required. It feels civilised enough to use everyday but special enough to keep for weekends. Handling is really good and is just as a well sorted MX5 should be - ie loads of fun.
It has a huge history file full of receipts for work done over the years and its clearly a car that has been well -loved. Its not perfect (with the odd minor light scratch - on the boot lid for example) but its a good solid honest car that drives properly. Its just been serviced and is MOT tested until September (I'll include 12 months MOT if the advertised sale price is met). Price is £5250.
STATUS: NOW SOLD.
